DISASTER ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM | VERMONT DISASTER ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM

Provides resources, advice, and training for responding to animal needs in the event of a disaster. The Guardian Angels DART (GADART) is not legally affiliated with VDART but works in cooperation with the group, covering Franklin and Orleans Counties. Pet owners are encouraged to communicate with their local emergency manager via the Town Clerk for guidance on local response plans.

GOOD KARMA RESCUE | GOOD KARMA RESCUE

Provides rescue, refuge, medical treatment, and other basic care for abandoned, stray, and neglected animals. Facilitates adoption of fostered animals, matching pets with the most appropriate households. Adopters are required to have a home visit from Good Karma Rescue. Annual event offers $50 discount on adoption fee.

HUMANE SOCIETY AND SHELTER PROGRAM | LUCY MACKENZIE HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides pet adoption services; Community education about pet care; Shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused or surrendered by their owners; Spay and Neutering programs; and Investigation of reported cruelty and neglect of animals. Also offers Sophie's Seniors, a special reduced-rate adoption and support program for older adults, and a petfood food shelf for those unable to properly feed their animals. With Jake's Friends Fund, provides financial assistance with veterinary expenses for pet owners in need. Provides follow-up to reports of animal cruelty and negligence, which may include educating the owners about animal care practices or state statutory requirements; assisting owners to improve conditions; facilitating animal surrender if owner chooses to relinquish animal; and working with States Attorneys Office in cases that require prosecution. Coordinates evacuation of pets, provides safe shelters, and establishes a system to track and reunite pets with their owners in the event of a disaster. Provides resources and advice to pet owners, animal-related businesses and non-profits, local communities, and state agencies to strengthen and support Franklin County's capacity to respond to animal needs in the event of a disaster. Guardian Angel Disaster Animal Response Team (GADART) provides support and training for team members and provides guidance to local emergency managers on including the communities' pet population in local response plans. Pet owners are encouraged to communicate with their local emergency manager via the Town Clerk and regional emergency planning group for guidance on local response plans.

Provides temporary homes, food, medical, and behavioral care for stray or surrendered animals. THERAPY DOGS OF VERMONT | THERAPY DOGS OF VERMONT

Visits people in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, hospitals, adult day centers, retirement communities, residential health care facilities, schools, libraries, and veteran housing communities. In addition, offers a means of reporting a missing pet via a form on the website. Stray animals are welcome any day, but please call ahead. Donations can be left in the donation bin outside the Adoption Center. Stray and owner surrender animals can only be accepted from Rutland County.
