Provides pet adoption services; Community education about pet care; Shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused or surrendered by their owners; Spay and Neutering programs; and Investigation of reported cruelty and neglect of animals. Also offers Sophie's Seniors, a special reduced-rate adoption and support program for older adults, and a petfood food shelf for those unable to properly feed their animals. With Jake's Friends Fund, provides financial assistance with veterinary expenses for pet owners in need. Provides follow-up to reports of animal cruelty and negligence, which may include educating the owners about animal care practices or state statutory requirements; assisting owners to improve conditions; facilitating animal surrender if owner chooses to relinquish animal; and working with States Attorneys Office in cases that require prosecution.
