Investigates claims of unlawful discrimination in housing, places of public accommodation, and state government employment. A place of public accommodation is any school, restaurant, store, establishment or other facility at which services, facilities, goods, privileges, advantages, benefits or accommodations are offered to the general public. This also includes most hospitals, professional offices (such as doctors, dentists, lawyers, and accountants), retail stores, inns, hotels, and schools. The Commission does not represent or advocate for either the individual who makes the complaint (complaintant) or the individual or entity against whom a petition is filed (respondent). If the Commission accepts a case for investigation, it may provide an independent mediator to seek an informal resolution to the dispute. If mediation does not result in a mutually agreed upon resolution, a member of the Commission's staff will investigate. The Commission does not provide legal advice. The complaintant and respondent may have attorneys to advise and represent them throughout the process, but an attorney is not required.

Provides a range of services designed to stabilize children and families and promote children's successful adjustment in the community. Services may include individualized child and family assessments to determine needs and best service match. Services may be available in the office, at home, in schools, or in the community. Offers crisis response according to the needs of the child and family.

Provides information, advice and advocacy to patients voluntarily admitted to inpatient psychiatric facilities or who are held on an involuntary 72-hour hold as part of an Emergency Examination. Offers outreach to individuals with mental health issues at designated hospitals and emergency departments. Investigates cases of serious abuse, neglect, and violation of rights against persons with mental illness who may not otherwise have access to Disability Rights Vermont services.

Pursues the preservation and protection of endangered land resources from indiscriminate development. Partners with local and statewide conservation organizations to conserve Vermont lands for the future. Conservation efforts include acquisition of development rights transferred through conservation easements for Vermont farms, working forest projects, and community projects. Also offers an online directory of conserved land open to the public for recreational trails.

Services include primary medical care such as physical health examinations, acute and chronic health screenings, obstetric care, laboratory testing, and birth control counseling. Provides onsite coordinated primary care, mental health services, and substance abuse services to enhance access to appropriate prevention, treatment, recovery and wellness services and activities. Programs for health maintenance and public education services are also offered. Coordination of transportation to medical appointments and wellness programs is available for patients.

Handles cases including evictions, foreclosures, breach of contract, land disputes, orders of protection for victims of stalking and sexual assault, medical malpractice, personal injury, and wrongful death. Pediatric primary care is staffed by specialists who are concerned with the physical, emotional and social health of infants, children and adolescents from birth to young adulthood.

Information about local wellness programs is provided on line and is also published in flyer form. Provides individual and group therapy to individuals who have been negatively impacted by acute and/or chronic exposure to traumatic events at work. Common reasons to seek treatment include: changes in mood, constant vigilance, difficulty with personal relationships, disciplinary actions at work, suicidal thoughts, or using alcohol or drugs to help manage difficult feelings.

Covers the costs, up to a certain dollar amount, for professional services and related costs for a simple burial or cremation for a deceased individual. Payment is made directly to the funeral home.

Meets people with empathy and practical tools, offering one-on-one problem-solving to meet urgent needs while planting seeds for long-term stability. What We Do: • Prevent utility shutoffs and restore heat and electricity • Stabilize housing by providing emergency rental and back rent assistance • Support flood recovery and disaster response • Help unhoused families and individuals move into permanent housing • Community Resource and Food navigation and • Application support.

Provides loans and/or grants to municipalities and nonprofit organizations to purchase or expand community facilities and equipment, including public services like hospitals, libraries, fire/police stations and schools, water and waste management, and local food systems. Also provides disaster relief funding for communities and organizations impacted by catastrophes.
