Vermont Department for Children and Families Family Services Division (DCF/FSD) is also responsible for placing children in temporary out-of-home care when necessary to keep them safe, working with parents and relatives toward children's safe return home, and finding permanent homes for children who can't return home safely. Partners with senior meal sites and senior centers to provide hot, nutritious, noontime meals. Home-delivered meals are often available for those who are unable to reach a meal site because of illness or frailty.

Provides character-building and social skills trainings in a Christian environment, with community service opportunities, physical fitness, music, arts and crafts, and a meal.

Helps families with children by providing case management services that support work, training and education, and cash grants for basic necessities. Reach Up helps with identifying skills, abilities, interests, training or education needs, preparation for work, childcare costs, transportation costs, and work-related costs such as clothing, tools, and supplies. Each person on Reach Up works with a case manager to create a Family Development Plan. Benefits paid through direct deposit or EBT card. Child-Only Reach Up provides cash assistance to help eligible adults care for the minor, dependent children of relatives or family friends. Reach First helps families overcome temporary, short-term financial crises and avoid the need for longer-term assistance, providing case management, financial help, and support services. Reach Ahead helps families transition from Vermont's Reach Up or Post-Secondary Education (PSE) programs to working, with supports to help maintain a job, including cash incentives for working and help paying for car repairs, work clothes, and work supplies, a 100% childcare subsidy, and a cash benefit for food.

Provides scholarships to access sports and recreation programs offered through its partner organizations. Funds activities such as skiing and snowboarding lessons, race participation fees, season/day passes at Stowe Mountain Resort, Nordic skiing at Craftsbury Outdoor Center, as well as swimming lessons, indoor rock climbing, movement classes, kayaking, and paddleboard lessons. Also provides grants to support advanced training for adaptive coaches affiliated with partner organizations.

Areas of priority include: housing, relief from abuse, financial exploitation, victim’s rights, Social Security, Medicaid, and protection of personal autonomy. Represents Medicare beneficiaries who also receive Medicaid in Medicare appeals concerning home health services, durable medical equipment, nursing care and prescription drug coverage.
