Provides a Quality Recognition and Improvement System (QRIS) for Vermont's child care centers, preschools, and after school programs. Programs that participate in STARS are those that go above and beyond state regulations to provide professional services that meet the needs of children and families. Families who send their children to centers that have received a 3-Star, 4-Star or 5-Star rating and who meet income guidelines may qualify for a low-income child and dependent care tax credit on their state income tax.

Provides a variety of core services in the communities it serves, including emergency support and assistance for low-income families and individuals in crisis. Other services include problem-solving support, employment goal setting, budget counseling, tenant-landlord mediation, emergency food services, and emergency assistance with other basic needs such as utility payment assistance. Responds to reports of suspected child abuse and neglect, and helps parents get the services and supports they need. Vermont Department for Children and Families Family Services Division (DCF/FSD) is also responsible for placing children in temporary out-of-home care when necessary to keep them safe, working with parents and relatives toward children's safe return home, and finding permanent homes for children who can't return home safely. The program provides a hotline number for reporting suspected cases of child abuse, neglect, or risk of harm. Social workers who answer the line take reports, conduct investigations, assess families, and make recommendations for services to alleviate family stress and improve parenting skills.

Offers on demand, recorded trainings that help professionals, family members, and other community helpers involved with caring for older adults develop the skills they need to function more effectively in the workplace.

Provides a full range of supportive services for individuals with a limited life expectancy and their families. Also provides comprehensive palliative and support care to individuals in need of pain and other symptom management, whether or not they have a life limiting illness. Provides bereavement support services that include individual grief counseling and/or support groups.

Provides a broad selection of recreational opportunities and leisure time activities.

Provides a mobile app with real-time route and arrival information for Advance Transit buses.

Facilitates professional case management for individuals in need of mental health or substance abuse services. Services are provided in the privacy of their homes and both individual and family counseling are available.

Provides consumers with a federally mandated, free credit report annually, as well as fraud and identity theft services, and a way for consumers to Opt-Out of offers of credit or insurance. Also offers a way to dispute information in a credit report.

Owns and manages manufactured home parks in Rutland County and the Town of Ludlow. Lots are rented at an affordable rate to mobile home owners.

Offers a substance free environment for peer support, educational programs, information and referral to needed services, recovery coaching, socializing, recreational activities, and meeting space for a variety of recovery workshops and meetings. They offer Narcan.

Offers temporary home environment and care for surrendered cats, dogs or other small animals. Provides adoption services and enlists volunteers for variety of shelter tasks to assist the professional staff.

Pays a portion of home heating bills for households meeting income eligibility requirements. Seasonal Fuel Assistance is not designed to cover all of the costs of heating a home or apartment. Active Seasonal Fuel households are eligible for free weatherization services.

Offers a way to compensate for food lost during a disaster, such as a flood or fire, loss of electricity, or equipment failure. Recipients are eligible to have a portion or all of their benefit replaced, depending on the value of the food they lost due to the disaster.

Provides volunteer workers who complete home repairs at no cost to homeowner twice each year on a first come, first served basis dependent on meeting program requirements and available funding and volunteers. Program focuses on one-day projects including painting, caulking, plumbing, electric, roof repair, step repair and replacement, and access ramps. They are generally unable to service emergency repairs.

Give an Hour also supplies a variety of links to mental health information and resources for military families. Works to reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems through education, training, and outreach efforts. Also provides free webinars for Wellness Ambassadors for promoting and advocating for mental health awareness in communities.

Offers a way to register as a general volunteer to help with needs due to flooding or other disasters.

Responds to Vermont investor complaints and investigates potential violations of security laws. Provides educational information about investing basics and securities laws on its website.

Provides shelter, medical treatment, and other basic care for surrendered and stray animals, including dogs, cats, and small pets. Facilitates pet adoptions, with adoption counseling to best match shelter animals with appropriate households. Also offers disaster preparedness services including education and emergency boarding. Provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities.

Provides the training for all law enforcement professionals in the state. Training conducted in person and online.

Fields housing discrimination complaints. People with credible issues covered by fair housing law are then referred to the Vermont Human Rights Commission, HUD, or Vermont Legal Aid, as appropriate. Also provides public advocacy, outreach, and education on fair housing issues, including publishing information, such as the Guide to Fair Housing for Families in Vermont, and conducting trainings and workshops about fair housing law.

Issues Firewood and Christmas tree Cutting Permits for use in Green Mountain National Forest. Also, through the Every Kid In A Park Program, a child's park pass can serve as a voucher for a free cut-your-own Christmas tree.
