YOUTH SUBSTANCE AWARENESS SAFETY PROGRAM | BURLINGTON COMMUNITY JUSTICE CENTER

Provides a voluntary program for youth who have received a civil violation for underage drinking or possession of alcohol or a civil violation for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. The program consists of a substance abuse assessment, screening, an education program, and community service. Once YSASP clients successfully complete the program, their civil violation is voided. Once YSASP clients successfully complete the program, their civil violation is voided.

Supports the successful re-entry into the community of people released from incarceration through Circles of Support and Accountability (COSAs). COSAs are made up of citizen volunteers who work with participants to help them learn to manage the challenges of everyday life, be accountable for their actions and become responsible community members. Volunteer coordinators may help establish links to employment, housing, transportation, and benefit programs. COSA volunteers provide emotional and practical support for the participant to help him or her become a productive, self-supporting citizen, manage the everyday challenges, and be accountable for safe and responsible living.

JUVENILE RESTORATIVE PROBATION PROGRAM | CENTER FOR RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

Provides restorative panels and restitution case management to children and youth who have been adjudicated in family court. Restorative justice panels hold youth accountable to victims and their community. Case Managers provide follow-up services to assure that restorative conditions of probation are completed. Program also provides young offenders with an opportunity to learn new skills and participate in a variety of community service activities.

Ex-Offender Reentry Programs

RESTITUTION UNIT | VERMONT CENTER FOR CRIME VICTIM SERVICES

Administers the Vermont Restitution Fund which makes payment available to crime victims who suffer financial hardship and have been awarded court-ordered restitution from the offender. The Restitution Unit is able to pay victims their restitution as soon as it has been ordered by the court. The Restitution Unit collects from the offender to reimburse the Fund. The Restitution Unit staff work in a confidential location and provide all services by phone, unless an in-person meeting has been arranged in advance. Restitution must be ordered by the court. There is a $5000.00 maximum restitution payment per crime victim. However, if restitution ordered by the judge is more than that, the Restitution Unit will attempt to collect the full amount.
