HUMANE INVESTIGATIONS | HOMEWARD BOUND: ADDISON COUNTY'S HUMANE SOCIETY

Supports local law enforcement with investigation of suspected animal neglect or cruelty. The program also provides care and rehabilitation of animal victims where appropriate. Public is advised to also call Vermont State Police or local police if they witness animal cruelty.

HUMANE SOCIETY AND SHELTER PROGRAM | LUCY MACKENZIE HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides pet adoption services; Community education about pet care; Shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused or surrendered by their owners; Spay and Neutering programs; and Investigation of reported cruelty and neglect of animals. Also offers Sophie's Seniors, a special reduced-rate adoption and support program for older adults, and a petfood food shelf for those unable to properly feed their animals. With Jake's Friends Fund, provides financial assistance with veterinary expenses for pet owners in need. Provides follow-up to reports of animal cruelty and negligence, which may include educating the owners about animal care practices or state statutory requirements; assisting owners to improve conditions; facilitating animal surrender if owner chooses to relinquish animal; and working with States Attorneys Office in cases that require prosecution. HUMANE SOCIETY PROGRAM | WINDHAM COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides pet adoption services; spay/neuter clinics; pet food assistance for low-income pet owners; community education about pet care; shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused, or surrendered by their owners; and community support of animal cruelty investigations. The shelter attempts to reunite lost pets with owners. The Foster Care Program provides food and supplies for volunteers willing to provide temporary foster care for pregnant cats and dogs, animals recovering from minor surgery, and animals in extreme stress in the shelter environment. Also provides Wellness Clinics to the general public, for vaccinations and neuter/spay services.
