Promotes humane treatment of animals through public education and legislative advocacy and campaigns for cruelty-free practices. Website includes listing of low-cost spay and neuter organizations, volunteer opportunities, resources about homeless and lost animals, and information about events and fundraisers.

Supports local law enforcement with investigation of suspected animal neglect or cruelty. The program also provides care and rehabilitation of animal victims where appropriate. Public is advised to also call Vermont State Police or local police if they witness animal cruelty.

Provides pet adoption services; spay/neuter clinics; pet food assistance for low-income pet owners; community education about pet care; shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused, or surrendered by their owners; and community support of animal cruelty investigations. The shelter attempts to reunite lost pets with owners. The Foster Care Program provides food and supplies for volunteers willing to provide temporary foster care for pregnant cats and dogs, animals recovering from minor surgery, and animals in extreme stress in the shelter environment. Also provides monthly Wellness Clinics at their Brattleboro shelter and in Wilmington, open only to pet owners receiving Pet Care Assistance. Rescues, rehabilitates, and adopts out stray and abandoned animals to suitable homes. Maintains an active cruelty investigation response team and responds to reports of animal abuse.
