RIDE TOGETHER PROGRAM | GREEN MOUNTAIN TRANSIT

Provides training that introduces new riders to the public transit system and teaches them to use bus service effectively. Participants are educated first in a classroom setting and then paired with an experienced travel advisor to learn the basic components of the system, including routes, fares, schedules, and policies. Helps build confidence in riding the bus and traveling independently. Accepts volunteers to serve as travel advisors. The training is customized to meet the rider's needs and includes the dos and don'ts of riding, as well as anticipating possible travel scenarios.

Provides door-to-door transportation in lift-equipped vans to individuals unable to use public transportation. Eligible clients may use transportation for medical appointments as well as errands, shopping, and other non-medical appointments. Offers volunteer driving opportunities. Availability on a first-come, first-served basis. SSTA routes go 3/4 mile beyond Green Mountain Transit routes. Prospective volunteer drivers should contact the office for more information.

THOMPSON TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM | THOMPSON SENIOR CENTER

Provides local transportation to and from the Senior Center, West Lebanon shopping trips, and other essential travel needs. Offers volunteer driving opportunities. Reservations for rides to and from Thompson Senior Center and Woodstock required by 8:30am. Medical rides must be scheduled a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Transportation is also available, with advance notice, within Woodstock for errands.

Maintains a phone line and website dedicated to connecting commuters to alternative transportation modes such as carpooling, vanpooling, and mass transit. Also provides information about state-operated Park & Ride locations, as well as a link to locations of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. In addition, provides information about becoming a volunteer driver at participating local transit agencies.

ADULT SERVICES | VERMONT ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Provides low vision services, including evaluation, information and referral, peer support groups, and instruction on adaptive techniques and aides for daily living. Transportation and Braille transcription services are also available. Offers volunteer opportunities for driving, errand assistance, and reading. Services can take place in home, at a central training site, or in a group setting at 11 different locations throughout Vermont.

SENIOR RIDES AND MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION | C.I.D.E.R.

Provides wheelchair-accessible, door-to-door transportation to medical appointments and therapy, grocery shopping, adult day programs, senior meals, and personal and social activities. Door-through-door service includes assisting passenger within the origin or destination of their trip. Individuals not requiring wheelchair accessibility are usually transported in private autos operated by C.I.D.E.R. volunteer drivers. Most trips are "on demand" except for regularly scheduled shopping or excursion trips. May be able to accommodate early morning, evening and weekend requests as well.
