PET FOOD SHELF | SPRINGFIELD HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides a pet food pantry of dry and wet cat and dog food. Welcomes donations of pet food and pet supplies. This program is intended to temporarily supplement a pet owner's monthly supply of pet food, not be the permanent sole source of food for their pets.

HUMANE SOCIETY AND SHELTER PROGRAM | LUCY MACKENZIE HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides pet adoption services; Community education about pet care; Shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused or surrendered by their owners; Spay and Neutering programs; and Investigation of reported cruelty and neglect of animals. Also offers Sophie's Seniors, a special reduced-rate adoption and support program for older adults, and a petfood food shelf for those unable to properly feed their animals. With Jake's Friends Fund, provides financial assistance with veterinary expenses for pet owners in need. Provides follow-up to reports of animal cruelty and negligence, which may include educating the owners about animal care practices or state statutory requirements; assisting owners to improve conditions; facilitating animal surrender if owner chooses to relinquish animal; and working with States Attorneys Office in cases that require prosecution. See website or call for information on monthly spay-neutering clinics. May also provide adoptions to residents of neighboring communities.

PET CORE | HOMEWARD BOUND: ADDISON COUNTY'S HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides annual veterinary wellness checks, monthly supplemental pet food, flea and tick preventive treatment, and dewormer. Pet CORE uses a reduced fee schedule for other services, such as spay/neuter costs for cats and dogs.

HUMANE SOCIETY PROGRAM | WINDHAM COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides pet adoption services; spay/neuter clinics; pet food assistance for low-income pet owners; community education about pet care; shelter for animals who have been abandoned, abused, or surrendered by their owners; and community support of animal cruelty investigations. The shelter attempts to reunite lost pets with owners. The Foster Care Program provides food and supplies for volunteers willing to provide temporary foster care for pregnant cats and dogs, animals recovering from minor surgery, and animals in extreme stress in the shelter environment. Also provides Wellness Clinics to the general public, for vaccinations and neuter/spay services.

Also provides Thanksgiving Baskets and extra holiday-type items before the holiday for Christmas. Food shelf is attached to Saint John's Episcopal Church. Sign-ups for Thanksgiving food baskets start in mid-October and are distributed the Monday before Thanksgiving. For Christmas, there are extra holiday-type items available throughout the month of December.

PET CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM | WINDHAM COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

Provides pet care assistance for households that are struggling to provide adequate care for their companion animals. Provides basic veterinary care on a sliding scale, including exams, flea/tick treatments, shots, surgery, medications, wormer, and non-prescription items. Also offers a pet food pantry and free supplies. Pre-pay is required. Payment assistance plans are available. Assistance is provided based on an agreement to work with WCHS to have all family pets spayed or neutered, and to not acquire any more pets while receiving assistance.

Provides an online database and search tool to help individuals find affordable veterinary care options for their pets in local communities. Individuals can also search for pet food pantries, supplies, and boarding services. Service providers listed in the database follow a financially friendly model like lower prices than private practices, specialty procedures regularly offered, and veterinary care that accommodates individuals with financial constraints.
