Operates a workers' rights advocacy organization. Focus of campaigns include cuts in hours, cuts in benefits, favoritism, harassment, unfair scheduling, unaffordable health insurance, health and safety, discrimination, unpaid wages, wrongful firing, workers' right to organize, workers' compensation, and family and medical leave. Services also include sponsorship of employment fairness lectures, films, roundtables, and public awareness marches. Migrant workers' rights information is also available. Provides a consumer complaint line for reporting incidents of consumer fraud or deception and investigates and prosecutes violations of Vermont's consumer laws. Issues scam alerts to inform the public of fraudulent telephone and Internet activities and mediates disputes between consumers and businesses. Automotive Consumer Assistance Program (AUTOCAP) handles complaints about vehicles purchased from a Vermont Auto Dealers Association (VADA) member. This program also handles complaints consumers may have with their propane company. Provides information and advise about telemarketing, charitable solicitation and debt collection calls. Informs and assists Vermont employees, employers, and members of the public regarding the laws related to, and best practices for, preventing sexual harassment and workplace discrimination. Workplaces For All is a project of the State of Vermont Sexual Harassment and Workplace Discrimination Education and Outreach Campaign. The campaign is a result of Act 183.

Investigates claims of unlawful discrimination in housing, places of public accommodation, and state government employment. A place of public accommodation is any school, restaurant, store, establishment or other facility at which services, facilities, goods, privileges, advantages, benefits or accommodations are offered to the general public. This also includes most hospitals, professional offices (such as doctors, dentists, lawyers, and accountants), retail stores, inns, hotels, and schools. The Commission does not represent or advocate for either the individual who makes the complaint (complaintant) or the individual or entity against whom a petition is filed (respondent). If the Commission accepts a case for investigation, it may provide an independent mediator to seek an informal resolution to the dispute. If mediation does not result in a mutually agreed upon resolution, a member of the Commission's staff will investigate. The Commission does not provide legal advice.
