Investigations are conducted to determine the validity of allegations and when warranted include the coordination of protective services to address critical safety concerns. Cases of SELF-neglect in persons 18-59 should be referred to the local mental health agency. Cases of self-neglect in persons 60 and older should be referred to the Area Agencies on Aging (Senior Helpline).
