VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
Vermont Department of Health (VDH) is the state government agency that focuses on issues related to the promotion and protection of the health and wellbeing of all Vermonters. The department includes the Board of Medical Practice, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and 12 local health offices. VDH focuses on prevention and promotion of healthy behaviors such as eating a healthy diet, having regular physical activity, and not smoking or abusing alcohol or other drugs. The department works to improve access to health services such as immunizations, mammograms, HIV/AIDS testing and care, and prenatal care, investigates disease outbreaks, and takes action to control the spread of illness. VDH licenses physicians and hospitals, emergency medical personnel and services, inspects food and lodging establishments, and enforces health regulations, as well as prepares for and responds to public health threats and emergencies.
