Provides a monthly cash benefit to qualified workers unable to work for a year or more because of a disability. Also offers a process to file an appeal. An expedited SSDI process is used for military service members who become disabled while on active military service on or after October 1, 2001 regardless of where the disability occurs.

Eligibility
To qualify for benefits, a person must first have worked in jobs covered by Social Security and must have a medical condition that meets Social Security's definition of disability. Veterans are eligible for SSDI in addition to any Veterans benefits.
