ENHANCED LICENSE / IDENTIFICATION | VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Provides the Vermont Enhanced Driver License (EDL/ID), a border crossing document for US citizens without a passport who are returning home from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, by land or sea. The EDL /ID is not accepted for international air travel. The EDL/ID is a Real ID-Compliant License, and a federal, Western Hemisphere Travel (WHT) Initiative-compliant document. An appointment scheduler is available through the website. EDL may be obtained through the following DMV offices: Bennington, Montpelier, Newport, Rutland, South Burlington, and Springfield. Children under 15 years old do NOT need to provide photo ID. Minor's evidence of US citizenship must be provided and parent(s)/guardian(s) must submit evidence of relationship to the minor. Children under age 18 must be present with parents and proof of the child's Social Security Number is also required. Licenses are not received on the day of application; they will be mailed to applicant.
