Provides information and education about depression and suicide to the public. Promotes professional education for the recognition and treatment of depressed and suicidal individuals and supports programs for suicide survivor treatment, research and education.  Organizes "Out of the Darkness" community walk events.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a non-profit organization that conducts research projects to help further the understanding and treatment of depression and the prevention of suicide. The AFSP Vermont Chapter provides Vermonters with information and education about depression and suicide, coordinates support groups for suicide survivors and their families and friends, and organizes the overnight "Out of the Darkness" walk events.
